Cooking Together with Food Sorcery

In March, just before the country went into lockdown, my husband and I had an evening out with a difference. I was invited to a cookery class for two with FoodSorcery in Didsbury and we had a brilliant evening. I do love to cook (my husband perhaps not so much) but neither of us had attended a class like this before.

FoodSorcery are a fun, hands on cookery school that aim to give you confidence to cook more. They offer a range of classes from Cooking Together, Big & Little Cooks and Team Building sessions, there’s something for everyone.

The classes are launching again from the 4th July and you can have a look now on their website to see what’s coming up, starting with their Steak Masterclass! I was gifted tickets for two people in return for a review.

My husband and I attended one of the Friday night Cooking Together sessions, described as dining out with a twist. On the night we received an extremely friendly welcome, drinks as we arrived and even some yummy canapés.

We were introduced to our expert chef for the night, our chef that night was Jason Palin, who not only obviously loved working with food, he was very friendly and instantly made everyone feel so relaxed.

There was about 10 pairs of us ready to get stuck in, the event ran from 7.45pm until around 11. There was plenty of space, each pair had their own workspace, oven and hob. Plus ingredients and utensils that had been prepared for us beforehand.

After the introduction, Jason gave us a demonstration of the starter that we would be making- South East Asian Broth and Dumplings. His demonstration was very informative but also fun, Jason’s energy and his love for food shines through as he talks and his whole audience was engaged.

It was then our turn! We popped on our aprons and got cooking. We had lots of fun, trying to remember what Jason had said and what the next step was. Everyone was really friendly and soon everyone started chatting. Jason moved around the room, offering help, sharing tips, telling jokes, talking photos and just generally making the experience as enjoyable as could be. My husband and I took turns to chop and stir and between us we made a very impressive starter!

Once we had our very fancy looking starters prepared (neither of us had made anything like it before) all the pairs came together to enjoy our meal, and wow was it delicious.

After another demonstration, we were back to cooking again. My ‘can’t cook, won’t cook’ husband was certainly enjoying himself and he couldn’t wait to get stuck in with the main meal- Vietnamese Inspired Lime Caramel Fish with Red Rice.

Whilst we ate the starter, our work space was cleared and cleaned for us. The ingredients and utensils needed for main meal were distributed and ready for us when we returned to our bench. Even through we made restaurant quality food, I was surprised at how easy the recipes were to follow. After the event, the full recipes are emailed to you so you’re able to try them at home. An added bonus, there was no washing up to do!

The whole evening was brilliant from start to finish, it’s definitely something I would do again and I would highly recommend. A perfect evening for anyone who loves food! I think the cookery classes would make a wonderful present, something a little different. Jason certainly made our experience a memorable one, he’s extremely likeable and makes everyone feel at ease.

We will definitely visit again soon! Check out a few more of my photos from the night…..
