The Wizard of Oz

We followed the yellow brick road to Blackpool to see the Wizard of Oz!

Myself, my husband and my sister travelled to Blackpool to see the Selladoor Family production at the Blackpool Winter Gardens. It was press night and we were so excited.

Everyone knows the story of The Wizard Of Oz! We follow Dorothy and of course her little dog Toto as they get swept away from their home in Kansas.

Dorothy is played by X-Factor star Holly Tandy, who has a fantastic voice and didn’t disappoint on the night! ‘Somewhere Over The Rainbow’ gave me goosebumps.

She did a fantastic job, especially as it was her theatrical debut. Holly was in most of the scenes so she had so many lines to learn and she did amazingly! Also, Toto was played by a real dog and Holly worked with the dog very well. Toto, played by two dogs Pascha and Teddy, definitely brought the ‘awww’ factor to the stage! He was so cute and did so well.

Dorothy soon found herself in Munchkin Land, where after meeting the Good Witch, Glinda, (Charlotte Scott) she soon realised she has made an enemy in the Wicked Witch of the West (played by Sarah Tullamore)!

One of my favourite scenes was when Dorothy met the Munchkins. The children that played the Munchkin townspeople were fantastic! Their singing and dancing were brilliant and to a high standard! The scenes were bright and colourful.

From this point the show just got better and better! We soon met the Scarecrow (Kieran McGinn), the Tin Man (Kelvin Fletcher) and the Lion (Scott Gallagher) as Dorothy travelled down the yellow brick road to find the Emerald City!

These were fun, comical scenes with three fantastic actors! Each had to become their character and all did it so well. Emmerdale’s Kelvin Fletcher gave an impressive performance as the Tinman, brilliant on his theatrical debut. Scott Gallagher’s performance as the cowardly Lion was also brilliant! He was funny and energetic, the kids loved him.

The set was very impressive! From the yellow brick road on the floor to the amazing lighting, it is clear that a lot of thought had gone into making sure the audience was amazed with each scene. The witches even flew onto stage which brought the story to life and added a touch of magic.

I have to give special mention to Sarah Tullamore who played the Wicked Witch of the West, her performance was outstanding! I enjoyed her scenes, she played a great villian.

Dorothy continues her journey to the Emerald City to see the Wizard so she can go back home. There’s no place like Home! There’s No Place Like Home!

The Wizard of Oz is great for the whole family and is perfect to watch this festive season!

Don’t miss it, it’s on now at Blackpool Winter Gardens until December 30th 2018, book now.
