Singing In The Rain- Manchester Review

This classic musical is showing now at the Manchester opera house until Saturday 14th May.

I invited my dad along with me to the press night performance. Beforehand he told me all about this musical and it’s storyline. Apart from knowing a few of the songs, it was a new one to me.

Based on the classic 1952 movie with Gene Kelly, Donald O’Connor and Debbie Reynolds, it follows the transition from silent movies to the ‘talkies’ back in the 1920’s.

Wow! It was wow! I adored everything about it. From it’s comedy to the choreography, it just all blew me away. The dancing (oh wow was the dancing spectacular) was absolutely wonderful and a delight to watch! There was plenty of impressive tap dancing and some incredible lifts too.

There were also lots of laugh out loud moments and heartwarming moments, I had a smile on my face right throughout.

The entire cast were sensational especially Adam Cooper and Charlotte Gooch who played Lockwood and Kathy. But it was Cosmo, played by Ross McLaren who stole the show for me! His number ‘Make ‘em laugh’ was definitely a highlight and the rest of the audience certainly agreed! He could sing, he could dance, he could entertain and he was so funny- he had everything.

I have to also mention the wonderful ‘Singing In The Rain’ number at the end of the first half. In each performance, 14,000 litres of water are used on stage! Adam Cooper certainly made a splash with the iconic dance- sheer delight to watch.

There wasn’t anything I didn’t like and I’d love to see it again! It’s on now until Saturday 14th May- you don’t want to miss it! See here for more info and tickets.
