Over the summer we have been reviewing the outdoor plays on offer from Heartbreak Productions. This year we have already enjoyed Gangsta Granny, Wuthering Heights and Private Lives.
Last year we were so lucky with the glorious weather and enjoyed their entire season in Fletcher Moss Botanical Gardens. Unfortunately this year has been quite a wet summer, turning Fletcher Moss into a bog!
Over the weekend, my husband and I saw Heartbreak Productions Romeo and Juliet at East Didsbury Methodist Church, inside due to the recent weather.
Even with the last minute change of venue, the audience were still in great spirits, we all set up our picnics indoors
What a great performance! This adaptation of Romeo and Juliet had a fantastic modern edge to it, including the use of technology throughout. The show started in the modern age on a TV set for the launch of a brand new perfume: R&J!
We are soon taken through the traditional story of Romeo and Juliet, as if it was set in the 21st century. The audience were encouraged to take pictures with their phones and even interactive online throughout the show.
The use of todays English and Shakespearean English fused perfectly, the actors flowed seamlessly between the two throughout the play.
The play was very enjoyable to watch, there was some very funny scenes but also some heartfelt scenes especially between Romeo and Juliet.
We have had some fun reviewing this years summer season with Heartbreak Productions. Check out what’s still to come this summer and where via their website. We can’t wait to see what’s coming next year……
