Fame The Musical

You may have noticed that I’ve been lucky enough to have got myself put on the Palace and Opera House press list, which it fantastic! I love the theatre and I absolutely love musicals!

Last night I attended the press night showing of Fame the musical! Wow what a show!

If you’re not familiar with Fame the movie, its set in the 80’s in the New York City High School for the Performing Arts. The film is full of music, dance and drama, following the lives of the students from auditions through to graduation.

The show was a sensation! The music, the dance, the lights! It was fabulous. I loved the 80’s costumes!

The choreography was also amazing, I loved all the dancing. Jorgie Porter from Hollyoaks and Dancing On Ice, was fantastic as Iris. Her dance scenes with Jamal Crawford Who played Tyrone we’re absolutely amazing. Jamal has been in several other theatre shows including The Bodyguard, Guys and Dolls and Thiller Live.

Mica Paris, who played Miss Sherman blew the audience away! She even received a standing ovation half way through act 2 with her rendition of ‘These Are My Children.’ The entire cast were extremely talented, most of them being able to pay several different musical instruments.

The set seemed simple yet extremely clever. The background represented an American high school year book, there were a series of moveable stairs and furniture that kept the story in motion. The lightening was also very cleverly used, from spotlights to bright lights.

Some of my favourites scenes included Jo, played by Albey Brookes and Carmen, Stephanie Rojas. Jo brought plenty of comedy to the show in his scenes, the audience loved him! Carmen had an amazing voice and some fantastic scenes including ‘There She Goes’ and she goes such an amazing performance of ‘In LA’. I fell in love with Serena, Molly McGuire and Nick, Keith Jack as we followed their lives throughout the show.

Fame is on until Saturday 28th July at The Palace in Manchester.
