Dr Seuss' How The Grinch Stole Christmas! The Musical

This Christmas you and your family can see the Broadway smash hit, Dr Seuss’ How The Grinch Stole Christmas! The Music at The Lowry Theatre Manchester. It’s showing now until Sunday 5th January 2020.

Me and Joshua headed to The Lowry earlier this week for the press night performance. Whether you know the Dr Seuss book or the Jim Carrey film, fans of The Grinch will love this musical.

Based more on the original Dr Seuss book, this musical follows the tale of The Grinch who hates Christmas. He lives on Mount Crumpet overlooking the village of Whoville. The ‘Whos’ LOVE Christmas!

The stage set and costumes are bright and very festive, the artistic design is inspired by Dr Seuss. The story is narrated by the Grinch’s dog, Max played by Griff Rhys Jones. X Factor’s Matt Terry stars as Young Max, his singing and dancing is great fun!

Cindy Lou Who, (is portrayed by several young girls and rotate the role) in the performance I saw it was 8 year-old Isla Gie who was outstanding. Her voice was amazing and so was her acting for such a young age, she certainly captured the hearts of the audience.

The star of the show for me (and I’m sure for everyone) had to be The Grinch himself who is played by Edward Baker-Duly. He certainly reminded me of Jim Carry’s interpretation of The Grinch which I think made me love him more! His facial expressions where fantastic, he was brilliantly funny and great with the audience.

Some of the songs I felt were a little repetitive, although my son didn’t seem to notice. I loved when they sang ‘You’re A Mean One Mr Grinch’, probably my favourite scene. The Grinch starts sneaking around Cindy Lou Who’s house, stuffing presents and even their Christmas tree up the chimney.

This is a lovely festive show that’s perfect for any Grinch fan, even if your shoes are too tight or your heart is two sizes too small, you’ll love it!

I was kindly gifted tickets for the press night performance in exchange for an honest review. All views are my own.
