Whit Friday Brass Band Contest 2019

Known locally as ‘the greatest free show on earth’, the Whit Friday Band Contest is this Friday across Saddleworth and Tameside. The contests will run from around 4pm until 10.30pm on Friday 14 June, following on from the traditional ‘Whit Walks’ in the morning.
Whether Brass Band music is your thing or not, the Whit Friday contests are a great family afternoon/evening out. Food and drinks are available at each Contest, so pack your chairs and picnic blankets to head out for the evening.

Keep an eye out for some of the most famous brass bands in the world for some fantastic music, plus some comedy bands who take things a little less seriously!!

A Bit About The Contest-

Bands play two pieces, one on the march and one performed to an audience. Each performance is scored ‘blind’ by an adjudicator, hidden close by.
Each contest offers prizes for the best band, best youth band and best soloist. At one of the busier venues, you could expect to hear over 50 bands, before the winners are announced shortly after close.
During the day and evening, they will be several diversions and road closures. Keep up to date via the council website here: Tameside and Oldham.
