FREE and CHEAP Half Term and Halloween Events in Greater Manchester

Half term already I hear your cry? It doesn’t seem like two minutes ago the kids were last off school.

There’s loads going on this October half term to keep the kids entertained in and around Oldham, Tameside and Greater Manchester. Best of all, this list below is all FREE and CHEAP activities!

SATURDAY 26th OCTOBER

*Spooky Saturday*

Free face painting, balloon modelling, Halloween crafts and Halloween green screen.

Spindles Shopping Centre, OL1 1HD, 11am-3pm

*Spooktacular Open Day*

Join in with the spooky fun and games, don’t forget your fancy dress costume.

£3.50 a child, no booking required, pay on the door. All children must be accompanied by an adult. 11am-3pm.

SUNDAY 27th OCTOBER

*Ghostly Storytelling Day*

Ordsall Hall has partnered with Manchester Metropolitan University and HAUNT Manchester to bring you a family friendly day of spooky storytelling and ghoulish poems as part of Gothic Manchester Festival.

Come and enjoy some deliciously dark tales of wicked witches, phantom horsemen, ghostly animals and enchanted forests.

Free, no booking required. Suitable for ages 5 years +. Ordsall Hall, Salford. 13.30pm-15.30pm

MONDAY 28th OCTOBER

*Christopher Pumpkin- Story time and Digital Craft*

Free event, no booking required. Listen to the story ‘Christopher Pumpkin’. Colour in a picture, then with the magical power of digital technology, make that picture come to life.

Chadderton Library, 10.30-11.30am.


*Room on the broom activities*

Free event, drop-in activities. Aimed at children aged 4-11 and their families.

Room on the broom themed crafts and activities.

Stalybridge Library, 10.30-11.30am.


*Spooky Poetry Walk*

Free event, children aged 7+, booking required- see here.

Spooky walk outside, come and join in and head outdoors to see if you can find the hidden words and create your own poetry.

Free family activities take place during all school holidays. Activities run from 1 – 4pm each day. Face painting and craft activities at each session. ‘Cardboard Dinosaurs and Spider and the Fly boxes’.

Most suitable for ages 4–10 years.

Children must be accompanied by an adult for all family activities.

All holiday activities are free with face painting for just £2.

*Halloween Community Day*

Free arts and crafts- 10am-12pm

Free lunch- 12pm

Free family activities take place during all school holidays. Activities run from 1 – 4pm each day. Face painting and craft activities at each session. ‘Clocks and Colourful Painting’.

Most suitable for ages 4–10 years.

Children must be accompanied by an adult for all family activities.

All holiday activities are free with face painting for just £2.


WEDNESDAY 30th OCTOBER

Super spooky Halloween story walk at Alexandra Park. Meet at the conservatory for crafts and a story, before heading out for a walk in the park. Keep your eyes open along he way for all the scary and wonderful things from the story.
